Limestone

Calcite (calcium carbonate) is the main component of limestone. Being water-soluble, this mineral is highly vulnerable to both chemical and mechanical erosion from rain. As a result, limestone outcrops often display a distinct surface with numerous small circular cavities.
Limestone, being soluble in rainwater, gives rise to characteristic features like dolines and karst caves, shaping spectacular landscapes over time.
