Limestone e dolomite

The rock surface reveals greenish and brown tones interwoven in a natural balance between oxidation and metamorphism. White calcite veins cut through the matrix like the strokes of an ancient script — traces of mineral fluids that once sealed the fractures of the stone. The orange patina at the base marks a slow process of iron oxidation, where sea water and wind have inscribed their passage over time.
The coastline of Himarë belongs to the Ionian complex, a sequence of sedimentary rocks formed along the margin of the Adriatic plate. Limestones and dolomites, once deposited in warm tropical seas, were later deformed and uplifted during the collision with the Hellenic plate. Today these formations reveal the transition between marine and continental domains, where tectonic pressure and marine erosion continue their dialogue between force and dissolution.
