Crystalline rock with dark patina and alpine lichens

A broad dark patina dominates the centre of the rock surface, forming a compact shape with irregular contours that seems to emerge from the stone like a figure in relief. Around it, ochre and grey areas alternate with colonies of green and yellowish lichens, creating a layered composition where mineral and organic matter overlap.
The black coloration is linked to surface weathering and the gradual accumulation of thin mineral and biological coatings on the exposed rock. Different patinas follow porosity, microfractures and subtle variations in the surface, transforming it into a kind of natural mask shaped by time.
Grandvalira lies in the heart of the eastern Pyrenees, an area characterized by ancient crystalline and Paleozoic rocks profoundly transformed and deformed throughout the complex evolution of the Pyrenean mountain chain.
Uplift, fracturing, frost and atmospheric weathering have progressively exposed and altered these surfaces. Over this mineral history, lichens have added another layer, colonizing even the harshest high-altitude environments and introducing new forms and colours to the stone. In Lady in Black, these processes seem to converge by chance into an almost human presence, suspended between matter and imagination.
