Micaceous gneiss

A network of fractures tends to isolate geometric portions of rock that can eventually detach as blocks. On the left, a late-stage vein of milky quartz appears to wedge into the rock and, due to its higher resistance to erosion, stands out in relief.
Micaceous gneiss is rich in mica, which gives it shine and makes it easy to split. Quartz veins are more resistant to erosion, forming natural raised structures.
