Calcareous micaschist

The dark, sedimentary-origin rock is largely covered by lichens, masking its layered appearance. At least 150 million years have passed since the time when a slurry of fine sediments was deposited on the ocean floor — what a long story the Alpine mountains can tell us.
Calcareous micaschist originates from ancient marine sediments over 150 million years old, transformed by heat and pressure during the formation of the Alps. Lichens often cover its surface today.
