Amphibolite

It’s well known that iron rusts when exposed to air and water over time. The same oxidation process affects rocks, and the phenomenon is particularly intense when the rock contains a high amount of iron, as is the case with amphibolite, which is rich in iron- and magnesium-bearing minerals.
Amphibolite derives from the metamorphism of basaltic rocks. Its dark color is due to ferromagnesian minerals, which can oxidize over time and give the surface reddish hues.
