Clay schist

Clays are primarily deposited in marine environments far from land. These very fine minerals accumulate in dark mud that compacts over time.
The high iron content in clay minerals results in rusty-colored oxidation patches.
Clay schists form through the metamorphism of very fine sediments, such as clays and silts, which had accumulated in ancient calm marine basins. Over time, heat and pressure transformed these sediments into rocks, preserving traces of the original environment.
