Alpine gneiss with mineral vein and orange lichens

The dark gneiss surface forms a broad curve, crossed by a slender pale mineral vein that accentuates its movement. The extremely fine grain and oriented mineral fabric follow this shape, creating the impression of a rock mass turning around itself.
Small colonies of orange lichens emerge as bright accents against the grey-green background, while the pale vein creates a sharp break within the composition. The contrast between these elements transforms the mineral structure into a dynamic image, almost like a whirl captured in stone.
The crystalline rocks of the Greina preserve traces of the profound transformations associated with the formation of the Alps. Successive deformation folded and reorganized their minerals, while fluids circulating through fractures deposited lighter mineral material, creating slender veins.
Once exposed at the surface, frost, water and erosion gradually revealed these details. Lichens now occupy favourable areas, adding a living element to a structure formed deep underground and uncovered over millions of years.
